Caverject
Caverject (alprostadil) is an injectable medication used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the penis, producing an erection, and can also be used as a diagnostic aid for erectile dysfunction.
How is this medication used?
Inject the prescribed dose directly into the side of the penis as instructed by your doctor, no more than once in 24 hours and no more than three times per week. Your doctor will determine the correct dose and train you on proper injection technique before home use.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects include pain at the injection site or in the penis, mild bleeding or bruising at the injection site, and prolonged erection. Seek immediate medical attention if an erection lasts longer than four hours (priapism).
What are the potential interactions?
Caverject may increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulants such as warfarin or heparin. Using it with other erectile dysfunction treatments such as sildenafil is not recommended without medical advice. Tell your doctor about all medications you take.
