Cequa (cyclosporine) ophthalmic solution is a prescription eye drop used to increase tear production in patients with dry eye disease. It works by suppressing the immune system to increase the production of tears.

How is this medication used?

Cequa is typically applied twice daily, about 12 hours apart, or as directed by your healthcare provider. Wash your hands before use. Do not touch the tip of the eye dropper or place it directly on your eye. A contact lens should be removed before application and may be reinserted 15 minutes after use.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Cequa include eye pain, stinging or burning sensation in the eye, eye redness, and visual disturbance. If you experience severe or persistent side effects, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

What are the potential interactions?

Before using Cequa, tell your doctor about all your current medications and any you start or stop using, especially other eye medications. Avoid using Cequa together with other eye drops unless your doctor advises you to do so.
