Ciloxan eye drops contain the active ingredient ciprofloxacin hydrochloride, which is a type of medicine known as a quinolone antibiotic. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes, such as conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers.

How is this medication used?

Wash your hands before use. Tilt your head back and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Look up and away from the dropper and squeeze out a drop. Close your eyes for 2 or 3 minutes with your head tipped down, without blinking or squinting. Gently press your finger to the inside corner of the eye for about 1 minute, to keep the liquid from draining into your tear duct. Use as directed by your healthcare provider, usually 2 to 4 times a day for 7 to 14 days.

What are the possible side effects?

Potential side effects of Ciloxan eye drops may include temporary discomfort, stinging, redness, blurred vision, or other irritation of the eye. Rarely, allergic reactions, such as rash, itching, swelling, and severe dizziness, may occur. Contact your doctor if you experience significant discomfort or any unusual symptoms.

What are the potential interactions?

Before using Ciloxan eye drops, inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal products. Avoid using other eye medications unless approved by your doctor. There is limited information on specific drug interactions with Ciloxan eye drops, but it is important to follow your healthcare provider's advice.
