Ciprofloxacin Eye Drops

How is this medication used?

Wash your hands before use. Tilt your head back and pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye and squeeze out a drop. Close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. Do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface. Typically, the drops are used every 2 hours while awake for the first two days, then 4 times a day for the next 5 days, but follow your doctor's instructions.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include temporary discomfort, burning, stinging, eye redness, and blurred vision after applying the drops. Rare but serious side effects include severe eye or eyelid irritation, vision problems, or allergic reactions characterized by rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing.

What are the potential interactions?

Ciprofloxacin eye drops can interact with other medications, although significant interactions are uncommon because the drops are not typically absorbed into the bloodstream in significant amounts.
