How is this medication used?

Take diltiazem XC exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken once a day. Swallow the extended-release capsule whole, do not crush, chew, or break it. It can be taken with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day for best results.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects may include dizziness, lightheadedness, weakness, nausea, and flushing as your body adjusts to the medication. Serious side effects are rare but contact your doctor if you experience severe dizziness, fainting, very slow heartbeat, unusual tiredness, or signs of liver problems such as persistent nausea, vomiting, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
