Dorzolamide / Timolol

How is this medication used?

Before using dorzolamide/timolol, wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back and pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Look up and away from the dropper and squeeze out a drop. Close your eye and press your finger to the corner of your eye (near the nose) for about 1 minute to prevent the liquid from draining down your tear duct. Use the medication exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically twice a day.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of dorzolamide/timolol include a bitter, sour, or unusual taste in the mouth, eye discomfort, dry eyes, blurred vision, and tearing. More serious side effects can include allergic reactions, chest pain, breathing difficulties, swelling, redness, pain, itching, or sensitivity to light. If you experience any serious side effects, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

What are the potential interactions?

Dorzolamide/timolol can interact with other medications, including oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, high blood pressure medications, and medications that affect the heart rhythm. Make sure to inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal products, to avoid potential interactions.
