Generic alternative to Multaq
Dronedarone is an antiarrhythmic medication used to reduce the risk of hospitalization in patients with a history of atrial fibrillation who are currently in normal sinus rhythm. It helps maintain a normal heart rhythm by acting on the electrical activity of the heart.
How is this medication used?
Take one 400mg tablet by mouth twice daily, one with your morning meal and one with your evening meal. Do not take it with grapefruit juice. Take it consistently and do not stop without consulting your doctor.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, fatigue, and slow heart rate. Rarely, it can cause liver problems or worsen heart failure; report unusual tiredness, dark urine, yellowing skin, or worsening shortness of breath to your doctor promptly.
What are the potential interactions?
Dronedarone interacts with many medications, including strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, clarithromycin), other heart rhythm drugs, digoxin, some statins, and blood thinners such as dabigatran. Avoid grapefruit juice. Tell your doctor about all medications and supplements you take.
