Edarbyclor is a prescription medication used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). It is a combination of two active ingredients: azilsartan medoxomil, which is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels, and chlorthalidone, a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention.

How is this medication used?

Edarbyclor should be taken by mouth, usually once a day, with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed, and continue taking it even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. It may take up to a few weeks before the full benefit of this drug takes effect.

What are the possible side effects?

Possible side effects of Edarbyclor include dizziness, lightheadedness, and dehydration. Serious side effects may include a decrease in vision, eye pain, kidney problems, and symptoms of a high potassium blood level (such as muscle weakness, slow/irregular heartbeat). If you experience any severe side effects or signs of an allergic reaction (rash, itching/swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing), seek immediate medical attention.

What are the potential interactions?

Edarbyclor may interact with other medications, such as lithium, digoxin, or drugs that may increase the level of potassium in the blood (such as ACE inhibitors, birth control pills containing drospirenone). Alcohol and marijuana can worsen the dizziness effect. It is important to tell your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal products. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor's approval.
