Edoxaban
Generic alternative to Savaysa
Edoxaban is a direct oral anticoagulant (blood thinner) that inhibits factor Xa. It is used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation, and to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
How is this medication used?
Take the prescribed dose by mouth once daily, with or without food, at the same time each day. Do not stop taking edoxaban without talking to your doctor, as stopping early can increase your risk of blood clots or stroke.
What are the possible side effects?
The most common side effects are bleeding-related, including bruising more easily, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, and prolonged bleeding from cuts. Other side effects may include anemia, rash, and abnormal liver test results. Seek medical help for signs of serious bleeding such as blood in urine or stool.
What are the potential interactions?
Other blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs (such as aspirin and clopidogrel), and NSAIDs increase bleeding risk. Rifampicin may reduce edoxaban's effectiveness, and certain drugs such as ciclosporin, dronedarone, erythromycin, and ketoconazole may require a dose adjustment. Tell your doctor about all medications you take.
