How is this medication used?

Emgality is administered as a subcutaneous injection. The recommended dosage is an initial loading dose of 240 mg (two consecutive injections of 120 mg each) followed by a monthly dose of 120 mg injected under the skin (subcutaneously) in the stomach area, thigh, or upper arm. Patients can administer Emgality injections themselves after proper training in subcutaneous injection technique.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Emgality include injection site reactions (pain, redness, itching), constipation, itching, and rash. Although most people do not experience serious side effects, symptoms of allergic reactions, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, should be addressed immediately by seeking medical attention.

What are the potential interactions?

Emgality may interact with other medications, although specific significant drug interactions have not been extensively reported.
