Enablex (darifenacin) is a medication used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder, such as frequent or urgent urination, and incontinence (urine leakage). It belongs to a class of medications known as antimuscarinics or anticholinergics, which work by relaxing the muscles in the bladder, improving control over urination.

How is this medication used?

Enablex should be taken exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. It is usually taken once a day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water, without crushing or chewing it. It's important to take it at the same time each day to maintain an even level of medication in your body.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of Enablex include dry mouth, constipation, nausea, headache, and dizziness. More serious side effects can occur but are less common. These may include severe stomach pain, constipation for 3 or more days, signs of kidney problems (such as painful urination, lower back pain), liver problems (such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin or eyes), or a serious allergic reaction. If you experience any serious side effects or signs of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention.

What are the potential interactions?

Enablex can interact with other medications, including certain antifungal drugs, antibiotics, drugs for HIV/AIDS, and other medications for treating overactive bladder. It may also interact with drugs that affect liver enzymes that remove enablex from your body. Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of Enablex. Grapefruit juice may interact with Enablex and lead to unwanted side effects. Always inform your healthcare provider about all the medications, supplements, and herbs you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
