Etoricoxib is a COX-2 selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain and inflammation in conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute gout. It is designed to be gentler on the stomach than traditional NSAIDs.
How is this medication used?
Take the prescribed dose by mouth once daily, with or without food, using the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary. Typical doses range from 30mg to 120mg daily depending on the condition being treated.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects include stomach upset, indigestion, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, swelling of the legs, and elevated blood pressure. Like other NSAIDs, it may increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and stomach ulcers, especially with long-term use.
What are the potential interactions?
Etoricoxib may interact with warfarin and other blood thinners, ACE inhibitors, diuretics, lithium, methotrexate, and other NSAIDs including aspirin. It may reduce the effect of some blood pressure medications. Tell your doctor about all medications you take.
