Evenity
Evenity (romosozumab) is an injectable monoclonal antibody used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fracture. It works by blocking sclerostin, which both increases bone formation and decreases bone breakdown, strengthening bones and reducing fracture risk.
How is this medication used?
Evenity is given as two injections under the skin, one immediately after the other, once a month by a healthcare professional. The full course is 12 monthly doses, and calcium and vitamin D supplements are usually taken during treatment.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects include joint pain, headache, and injection site reactions such as redness or pain. Rarely, Evenity may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, and cases of jaw osteonecrosis and unusual thigh bone fractures have been reported.
What are the potential interactions?
There are no significant known drug interactions with Evenity. Tell your doctor about all medications and supplements you take, and mention any history of heart attack or stroke, as Evenity should not be started within a year of these events.
