Isoptin SR
Isoptin SR (verapamil sustained release) is a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure and angina (chest pain). It works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the heart's workload, improving blood flow and lowering blood pressure.
How is this medication used?
Take the prescribed dose by mouth once or twice daily with food, swallowing the tablet whole or breaking it only at the score line; do not crush or chew. Take it at the same time each day and do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects include constipation, dizziness, headache, fatigue, low blood pressure, slow heart rate, and swelling of the ankles or feet. Contact your doctor if you experience severe dizziness, fainting, or a very slow heartbeat.
What are the potential interactions?
Verapamil interacts with beta-blockers, digoxin, certain statins (simvastatin, atorvastatin), some heart rhythm medications, and CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers. Avoid grapefruit juice, which can raise verapamil levels. Tell your doctor about all medications you take.
