Kisqali
Kisqali (ribociclib) is a targeted cancer therapy known as a CDK4/6 inhibitor. It is used in combination with hormone therapy to treat hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer by blocking proteins that promote cancer cell division.
How is this medication used?
Take the prescribed dose by mouth once daily, with or without food, for 21 consecutive days followed by 7 days off, repeating in 28-day cycles. Take it at approximately the same time each day, preferably in the morning, and swallow the tablets whole.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects include low white blood cell counts, nausea, fatigue, diarrhea, hair thinning, vomiting, headache, and rash. Kisqali can also affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation) and liver function, so regular ECGs and blood tests are required.
What are the potential interactions?
Avoid grapefruit and strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, clarithromycin) or inducers (rifampicin, St. John's Wort). Kisqali should not be combined with other medications that prolong the QT interval, such as certain antiarrhythmics and antipsychotics. Tell your doctor about all medications you take.
