Prolensa
Prolensa (bromfenac 0.07%) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) eye drop used to treat inflammation and reduce eye pain in patients who have undergone cataract surgery. It works by blocking prostaglandins, substances that cause inflammation and pain in the eye.
How is this medication used?
Instill one drop into the affected eye once daily, beginning one day before cataract surgery, continuing on the day of surgery and for 14 days afterward. Wash your hands before use and avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface. Remove contact lenses before instilling drops.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects include mild eye irritation, foreign body sensation, blurred vision, and eye pain. Rarely, NSAID eye drops can slow corneal healing or cause corneal problems, particularly with prolonged use.
What are the potential interactions?
If you use other eye drops, separate their administration by at least five minutes. Use caution when combined with topical corticosteroids or in patients taking blood thinners, as bleeding of ocular tissues may be increased. Tell your doctor about all medications you use.
