Rasuvo (methotrexate) is a once-weekly auto-injector used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and severe psoriasis. Methotrexate reduces immune system activity and inflammation, slowing disease progression and relieving symptoms.

How is this medication used?

Inject the prescribed dose under the skin once weekly, on the same day each week, rotating injection sites on the abdomen or thigh. Never take it daily, as daily dosing can cause serious toxicity. Folic acid supplements are usually prescribed alongside to reduce side effects.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include nausea, stomach upset, mouth sores, fatigue, headache, and injection site reactions. Methotrexate can also lower blood counts and affect the liver and lungs, so regular blood tests are essential. Avoid alcohol during treatment.

What are the potential interactions?

NSAIDs, certain antibiotics (trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, penicillins), proton pump inhibitors, and other drugs affecting the kidneys can increase methotrexate toxicity. Live vaccines should be avoided. Tell your doctor about all medications and supplements you take.
