How is this medication used?

Seroquel XR should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily with or without food. Swallow the tablets whole and do not split, chew, or crush them. Dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and weight gain. It may also cause a drop in blood pressure when rising too quickly from a sitting or lying position, leading to feelings of lightheadedness or fainting. Serious side effects include signs of infection (such as fever, persistent sore throat), severe stomach/abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing, and the rare risk of a condition known as tardive dyskinesia.

What are the potential interactions?

Seroquel XR can interact with several types of medications including drugs that induce or inhibit CYP3A4 enzyme activity, certain antidepressants, antifungal medications, antiviral medications, and medications for treating high blood pressure. Alcohol and drugs causing sedation may increase the sedative effects. Always inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal products.
