How is this medication used?

Sertraline is usually taken once daily, with or without food. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the condition being treated and individual response to the medication. It's important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully. It may take several weeks before you notice an improvement in your symptoms.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of sertraline include nausea, headache, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased sweating, and sleep disturbances. More serious side effects can occur, such as serotonin syndrome, which is characterized by high fever, agitation, confusion, tremor, and abrupt changes in blood pressure. Suicidal thoughts and behavior can also increase in the first few weeks of treatment or when the dose is changed.

What are the potential interactions?

Sertraline can interact with a wide range of medications including, but not limited to, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), aspirin, warfarin, other antidepressants, triptans used to treat migraines, certain pain medications, and St. John's wort. It's important to inform your healthcare provider about all medications, supplements, and herbs you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
