Verquvo (vericiguat) is an oral soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalization in adults with symptomatic chronic heart failure and reduced ejection fraction following a recent worsening event. It works by enhancing a natural pathway that relaxes blood vessels and improves heart function.

How is this medication used?

Take the prescribed dose by mouth once daily with food, starting at a low dose that your doctor will double about every two weeks to reach the target dose of 10mg daily as tolerated. Tablets may be crushed and mixed with water if you have trouble swallowing.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include low blood pressure (which can cause dizziness or lightheadedness) and anemia. Contact your doctor if you experience fainting or symptoms of severe hypotension.

What are the potential interactions?

Do not use Verquvo with other soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators such as riociguat. Combining it with PDE-5 inhibitors (sildenafil, tadalafil) or long-acting nitrates may cause significant drops in blood pressure. Tell your doctor about all medications you take.
