How is this medication used?

Take one tablet by mouth once daily on an empty stomach when you first wake up, with a small amount of plain water (no more than 4 ounces/120 mL). Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other oral medications. The dose is increased gradually as directed by your doctor.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, and fatigue, especially during dose increases. Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis and gallbladder problems; a boxed warning notes thyroid C-cell tumors seen in animal studies.

What are the potential interactions?

Semaglutide increases the risk of low blood sugar when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas. Because it slows stomach emptying and must be taken on an empty stomach, it can affect the absorption and timing of other oral medications such as levothyroxine. Tell your doctor about all medications you take.
