How is this medication used?

Inject the prescribed dose under the skin of the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm once weekly, on the same day each week, with or without meals. Treatment starts at a low dose that is increased gradually every four weeks as directed by your doctor. Rotate injection sites with each dose.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, and injection site reactions, particularly during dose increases. Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis and gallbladder problems; a boxed warning notes thyroid C-cell tumors observed in animal studies.

What are the potential interactions?

Tirzepatide increases the risk of low blood sugar when used with insulin or sulfonylureas. Slowed stomach emptying may affect absorption of oral medications, including oral contraceptives, so a backup birth control method may be advised when starting or increasing doses. Tell your doctor about all medications you take.
