Relugolix
Generic alternative to Orgovyx
Relugolix is an oral GnRH receptor antagonist and the active ingredient in Orgovyx. It is used to treat advanced prostate cancer by quickly lowering testosterone levels, which prostate cancer cells need to grow, without the initial hormone surge associated with older therapies.
How is this medication used?
Take a loading dose of 360mg (three tablets) on the first day, then 120mg by mouth once daily at approximately the same time each day, with or without food. Continue treatment as directed and do not stop without consulting your doctor.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects include hot flashes, fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, constipation, and diarrhea. Lowered testosterone can also affect bone density, mood, sexual function, and may prolong the QT interval on heart tracings.
What are the potential interactions?
P-gp inhibitors such as erythromycin and clarithromycin can increase relugolix levels, while combined P-gp/strong CYP3A inducers such as rifampicin can decrease its effectiveness. Tell your doctor about all medications and supplements you take.
